The Ashanti Kusasi chiefs and elders, alongside the Diaspora Kusaug Community, have praised security agencies and individuals involved in the arrest of suspects linked to the murder of their Chief, Naba Maliki Azimbe.

The Chief was killed on July 22, 2025, at his residence in Asawase, Ashanti Region.

Addressing a press conference in Kumasi, John Ndago, spokesperson for the Ashanti Kusasi Chiefs and Elders, lauded the Ghana Police Service, particularly the Inspector-General of Police, for his leadership, as well as the Ashanti Regional Command for their role in apprehending the suspects.

He singled out the Ashanti South Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police Joseph Hammond, and his team for their commitment, describing the detention of three suspects—Jamil Usman, Suleman Yasir Arafat, and Ashiadu Sumbeida—as a “pivotal advancement” in the case.

“We urge the Ghana Police Service to conduct a comprehensive and expeditious investigation to ensure successful prosecution and punishment, which will deter future crimes,” Ndago stated.

He also highlighted that one of the suspects, Illiasu, known as Abodom, is still at large and called for his immediate apprehension.

The chiefs and the Diaspora Kusaug Community are demanding a thorough inquiry into all circumstances surrounding the murder and have appealed to the Ghana Police Service to ensure full protection for all witnesses.

Ndago further acknowledged the support of the Regional Security Council (REGSEC) and District Security Council (DISEC) for maintaining peace, as well as the National Peace Council and members of the public, including some peace-loving Mamprusi brothers, whose intelligence contributed to the arrests.

“We express absolute confidence in the Ghana Police Service and the judiciary to deliver prompt, impartial, and unequivocal justice,” he said, concluding with a prayer for the eternal repose of late Chief Naba Maliki Azimbe and strength for his grieving family. The statement ended with the slogan: “JUSTICE FOR OUR CHIEF.”

The suspects are expected to appear in court at the Asokore Mampong District Court on Friday, March 27, 2026.
