Former Roads and Highways Minister and MP for Bantama, Francis Asenso-Boakye, has accused the Finance Minister of deliberately misrepresenting his concerns about the Accra–Kumasi highway project in an attempt to paint him negatively before the public.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Asenso-Boakye said his recent letter to the President, which raised concerns about the proposed Accra–Kumasi expressway, was driven solely by the need to ensure continuity and prevent waste of public resources — not to oppose new infrastructure.

“I was only looking at the prudence that if we abandon the ongoing project, it will be a waste of resources. That was the theme of my letter to the President,” he explained.

He expressed disappointment that the Finance Minister had framed his comments as opposition to the new expressway, describing the move as politically motivated and unfair.

“The Finance Minister only did politics with my comments. It was wicked. He said that I didn’t want the expressway to be constructed. His comments were meant to pitch and incite people against me, but whoever reads the letter knows exactly what I said,” Asenso-Boakye stated.

The Bantama MP stressed that his long-standing commitment to the development of Kumasi and the Ashanti Region is well known, saying his call was only to ensure the existing dualisation project is completed before any new one is started.

“My letter to the President was not for politics but in the interest of continuity and national development,” he added.
