Asantehene to seek technical support from Germany for Suame Magazine artisans

-

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has announced plans to engage the German government for technical assistance to enhance skills development among artisans at Suame Magazine in Kumasi.

Speaking during an interaction with the German Ambassador to Ghana, His Majesty highlighted the need for structured training and technological support to transform Suame Magazine into a modern industrial hub.

He revealed that land has already been allocated for the redevelopment of the area into a well-organised artisan enclave where mechanics, fabricators, and auto engineers can operate efficiently under improved conditions.

Otumfuo explained that the initiative aims to equip local artisans with German engineering expertise, enabling them to innovate and produce at international standards.

“Suame Magazine is the hope of artisanal mechanics in Kumasi. They are very good; they can design and repair cars of all kinds. If we can establish a modern centre and get German technical support, we can train them here to become world-class engineers,” the King stated.

He added that discussions with German partners will be pursued ahead of an upcoming visit by the German President to Ghana, during which the proposal will be further explored.

Suame Magazine, one of West Africa’s largest artisanal industrial clusters, is home to thousands of skilled mechanics and technicians who contribute significantly to Ghana’s automobile and metal fabrication sectors.
