Asante Kotoko have completed the signing of talented right-back Shayibu Abubakari ahead of the 2025/26 football season.
The 21-year-old joins the Porcupine Warriors on a three-year contract from Karela United, becoming the club’s tenth signing of the current transfer window.
Abubakari expressed his excitement about the move, describing it as a major step in his career.
“I’m still young, and I see this as a big opportunity to progress in my career,” he told the club’s official website.
“This is a great environment to learn, and I’m particularly looking forward to working with Lord Amoah and pushing myself every day.
I’m here to grow and to give everything for this club.”
The former Real Tamale United defender also had a short stint in the Czech Republic with Mladá Boleslav, gaining experience in European football.
Known for his athleticism and versatility, Abubakari is an attack-minded full-back who can also operate as a winger. He is expected to provide strong competition for Lord Amoah at right-back while Emmanuel Kotei continues his recovery from an ACL injury.
His arrival adds depth to a Kotoko squad preparing for both the CAF Confederation Cup and the Ghana Premier League campaign.
The club’s other signings this window include Johnson Oppong, Francis Acquah, Aziz Dari, Joseph Amoah, Zakariah Fusseni, Hubert Gyau, Seth Kwadwo, Lord Adabo, and Philip Amoh.
