Asante Kotoko have appointed Prince Yaw Owusu as interim head coach following the resignation of Abdul Karim Zito.

Zito stepped down on Monday, February 9, a day after the Porcupine Warriors were eliminated from the MTN FA Cup by Aduana FC in a Round of 16 clash at the Baba Yara Stadium.

In a statement, Kotoko confirmed that Owusu will take temporary charge of the technical team, with Mohammed Hamza Obeng named as his assistant.

“Coach Prince Yaw Owusu is to temporarily take charge of the technical team, assisted by Mohammed Hamza Obeng,” the Kumasi-based club announced in a post on X.

The club’s management has accepted Zito’s resignation, expressing gratitude for his service and wishing him success in the next phase of his coaching career.

“Abdul Karim Zito Kabutey has resigned from his role as head coach of Asante Kotoko Sporting Club with immediate effect. Management has accepted the resignation, expressed its appreciation to the coach for his services, and wished him the best for the future,” the statement read.

Owusu and Obeng now face an immediate challenge, with their first assignment set to be the highly anticipated Super Clash against Hearts of Oak in the Ghana Premier League this weekend at the Baba Yara Stadium.
