Asante Kotoko head coach Karim Zito targets CAF Confederation Cup group stage

-

Asante Kotoko head coach, Karim Zito, says the club’s primary objective in the upcoming 2025/26 CAF Confederation Cup is to reach the group stage.

The Porcupine Warriors secured their spot in the continental competition after defeating lower-tier side Golden Kick FC 2-1 in the FA Cup final on Sunday at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium. The victory marked Kotoko’s 10th FA Cup title.

Striker Kwame Opoku was the standout performer, scoring both goals. He opened the scoring with a 17th-minute header and sealed the win with a composed penalty in the 89th minute.

Looking ahead to their continental campaign, Coach Zito outlined the team’s preparation plans.

“Asante Kotoko has a lot of programs. I think on July 6 we are playing Accra Hearts of Oak, and then we are also to travel to South Africa to play a tournament,” he told Peace FM.

“So you see how busy we will all be in preparing for the coming Confederation Cup. We are going to do our best, and we will try to join the group,” Zito added.

Despite leading the team to cup glory, the club has yet to confirm whether Zito will remain head coach next season. He took over midway through the recently concluded campaign in an interim capacity.
