Asante Kotoko come from behind to beat Hearts of Oak to win 2025 President’s Cup

Asante Kotoko were crowned champions of the 2025 President’s Cup after staging a remarkable comeback to defeat rivals Hearts of Oak 2-1 on Sunday, July 6, at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The Phobians dominated the first half and broke the deadlock in the 27th minute when Hamza Issah capitalized on a goalkeeping error by Mohammed Camara to give his side the lead.

But Kotoko came out stronger in the second half and found the equalizer through Peter Amidu Acquah.

The winger made a surging run down the left and forced the ball in, with a deflection off Konadu Yiadom helping it into the net.

Just a minute after drawing level, the Porcupine Warriors went ahead. Kwame Opoku finished off a low square pass into an empty net to make it 2-1.

Hearts thought they had equalised late on, but their goal was ruled out for offside.

Moments later, they were awarded a penalty, but Emmanuel Amankwah’s effort was saved by Camara, who redeemed himself with a crucial stop.

Kotoko held on to secure the win and lift their ninth President’s Cup title.
