Former coach of Ghana, Kwesi Appiah, has insisted there is no bad blood between him and general captain of Ghana Black Stars, Asamoah Gyan.

According to him, the decision to strip off the captaincy from the former Sunderland forward ahead of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations was purely technical.

The 59-year-old made this revelation when speaking to GTV Sports Plus in an interview.

“Asamoah Gyan has always been my friend; I am also close to the family.

“Anytime I am going to the Northern region, I visit the Gyan family at Wenchi before I continue my journey. I love the family.

“The decision to strip him off the captaincy was purely technical and nothing else. I explained to him when I met him ahead of AFCON and he understood my decision.

“He supported the team during the tournament in Egypt but was sad when we exited from the tournament,” he added.

Asamoah Gyan prematurely retired from the national team ahead of the 32nd edition of Africa’s prestigious tournament in Egypt when he was stripped of the Black Stars captaincy and was handed to Andre Ayew.

However, after a presidential intervention, Gyan made a return to the national team.
