Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has been lauded for his lifelong contributions to Ghana, Africa, and the world, as he celebrates his 87th birthday on December 8, 2025.

In a tribute, political commentator Arthur Kobina Kennedy highlighted Kufuor’s achievements, from his early years as an exceptional student at Prempeh College—where he reportedly won nearly every prize—to his distinguished political career.

After returning to Ghana following his studies in the United Kingdom, Kufuor entered politics at a young age, serving under the administrations of Kofi Abrefa Busia and Jerry John Rawlings.

Kennedy praised Kufuor’s 1996 and 1998 campaign strategies, noting that, despite being under-resourced, his dedication, hard work, and personal connections—particularly with Northern voters—propelled him to victory in party primaries.

“Kufuor’s humility and inclusiveness as President were remarkable. A humble Ashanti, he once said, ‘Every party has factions and leaders must accommodate them.’ Wherever he went, doors opened—for him and for Ghana,” Kennedy said.

Kennedy also commended Kufuor for strengthening institutions through strategic appointments and for his distinguished post-presidency, describing him as “dignified, statesmanlike—and perhaps a tad too quiet.”

He noted the former President’s work with his foundation and the establishment of APIMI, emphasizing Kufuor’s belief that public interest digital media combined with artificial intelligence could position Africa at the center of global development.

Kennedy concluded by expressing hope that Kufuor, alongside President Mahama, would continue empowering Ghanaian youth and maintaining Ghana’s position as the gateway to Africa in the 21st century.

“Mr. President, may God bless you with many more years of joy and health. Happy birthday!” Kennedy said.
