Armed men arrest Adenta Kumi in dawn raid

-

A group of armed men has arrested Alfred Ababio Kumi, popularly known as Adenta Kumi, a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), in a dawn raid.

The former NPP parliamentary aspirant for Adentan was picked up from his residence by operatives believed to be from the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB).

Some of the operatives were reportedly masked and wielded AK-47 rifles, while others were in plain clothes.

Early on, NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong posted on Facebook urging party members to rush to Mr. Kumi’s house, stating that over 20 CID officials were present to take him away.

Following this, Manhyia South MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah confirmed the situation, saying he received a frantic call from Adenta Kumi.

Vincent Ekow Assafuah, Member of Parliament for Old Tafo, also confirmed the arrest, describing it as a troubling “Rambo-style” raid.

The reason behind the arrest is not yet known.

However, the arrest comes just days after Kumi petitioned President John Mahama, calling for the dissolution of the committee investigating the possible removal of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.

Adenta Kumi had alleged that on May 15, 2025, he witnessed three Supreme Court justices—including two members of the committee—having dinner together at a restaurant in Accra.

In an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, he claimed the justices were discussing matters related to the ongoing petition and said he has evidence to support his claims.

He named the individuals as Justice Gabriel Scott Pwamang, Chairman of the committee; Justice Samuel Kwame Adibu-Asiedu; and Justice Yonny Kulendi.
