The Greater Accra Regional Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Anthony Nukpenu, has apologized to Ghanaians for comments he made about the deplorable state of the Adenta–Lakeside road, which sparked widespread backlash.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Mr. Nukpenu said his remarks were misconstrued and not meant to disrespect or offend anyone.
“After yesterday, I have heard that many Ghanaians are upset with my comment. I humbly withdraw and apologise to everyone affected. I never intended to insult or disrespect anyone. I only made a statement that was misunderstood,” he said.
He appealed to the public for understanding, adding that while the government is committed to fixing the country’s roads, citizens can also play their part in supporting national development.
Mr. Nukpenu had earlier stated that residents of Adenta should organize themselves to repair the Lakeside road if they believed the government was not acting quickly enough, a comment that drew sharp criticism from community members and the public.
