World boxing champion Anthony Joshua has been discharged from Duchess International Hospital in Ikeja, Lagos, following treatment for minor injuries sustained in a serious car crash in Nigeria that claimed the lives of two close members of his team.
Joshua, who was seated in the back of the SUV, sustained only minor injuries and was initially taken to hospital for observation and treatment.
After a brief admission, he was declared fit and discharged on Wednesday night.
Following his release, Joshua and his mother were seen at a Lagos funeral home where they paid their last respects to the deceased ahead of the repatriation of the bodies to the United Kingdom
The accident occurred on Monday, December 29, 2025, along the busy Lagos‑Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State, when the Lexus SUV carrying Joshua and four others reportedly lost control while overtaking another vehicle at high speed and collided with a stationary truck.
Preliminary findings by Nigeria’s Federal Road Safety Corps indicate excessive speed and a wrongful overtaking manoeuvre as key factors in the crash.
Among the occupants of the vehicle were Joshua’s personal trainer, Kevin “Latif” Ayodele, and his strength and conditioning coach, Sina Ghami, both of whom died at the scene.
Two other passengers escaped injury.
Joshua, 36, had recently returned to competitive boxing with a high‑profile victory over YouTuber‑turned‑boxer Jake Paul on December 19, 2025, and was reportedly in discussions for future bouts.
