The Minority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, has issued an appeal to President John Mahama, calling for an immediate ministerial reshuffle to address what he describes as a dereliction of parliamentary duties by some ministers.
The call came during parliamentary proceedings on Tuesday, sparked by the absence of Ministers required to answer urgent questions on the floor.
Mr. Annoh-Dompreh expressed frustration over a long-standing question advertised for the Minister for Public Sector Reform, which has remained unanswered on the order paper.
“We have to take this question because we’ll be rising on Friday. Otherwise, it’s going to be a problem,” he stated.
The situation was compounded by a notification from the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, informing the House of his inability to appear.
While the Whip spoke kindly of the Minister, “Eric [Opoku] has been a very dutiful person. I won’t begrudge him,” he insisted that parliamentary protocol and duty demanded a replacement.
“His deputy must be here,” Mr Annoh-Dompreh asserted.
The MP for Nsawam-Adoagyiri turned his critique into a direct message to the Presidency.
“The President must be watching. The first reshuffle must happen,” he said.
He suggested that ministers who are “not ready to do public business” should be replaced.
The legislator further pointed out that “Honourable Vanderpuye, for instance, is waiting. He has been lacing his shoe for a very long time.”
