The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Anloga, Sandra Seyram Kpedor, has called on residents to adopt proper waste management practices to help prevent flooding and improve environmental sanitation in the district.

The appeal was made while speaking in an interview with Adom News Correspondent Odehyeba Owusu during the two-day nationwide clean-up exercise initiated by President John Dramani Mahama.

Speaking in an interview with Adom News Correspondent, Odehyeba Owusu Job, the DCE stressed that indiscriminate disposal of refuse remains one of the major causes of flooding and urged residents to play their part in keeping their communities clean.

According to her, the President’s directive for the nationwide clean-up campaign came at a critical time, especially for Anloga, which was among the districts in the Volta Region severely affected by the heavy downpour that struck parts of the region on June 29.

She noted that the flooding exposed the need for residents to take sanitation more seriously by ensuring that drains are not choked with refuse and that waste is disposed of at designated dumping sites.

The DCE further encouraged community members to make environmental cleanliness a continuous responsibility rather than limiting it to organized clean-up exercises.

She emphasized that maintaining clean surroundings would not only reduce the risk of flooding but also help prevent the outbreak of sanitation-related diseases.

She commended residents, youth groups, sanitation workers, and other stakeholders who participated in the exercise, describing their commitment as a demonstration of collective responsibility toward building a cleaner and healthier Anloga.

The nationwide clean-up exercise forms part of the government’s broader efforts to improve sanitation across the country, reduce flooding, and promote healthier communities through active citizen participation.
