Ankaase chiefs perform cleansing rituals after man confesses to sleeping with sister-in-law

A man at Ankaase, near Bekwai in the Ashanti Region, has allegedly engaged in a sexual relationship with his wife’s younger sister, an act that has provoked outrage within the community and led to the performance of traditional cleansing rituals.

According to reports, the incident came to light after weeks of speculation among residents. The man later confessed to the act, confirming the rumors that had been circulating in the community.

Speaking to Adom News after the rituals, Nana Owusu Ansah, Ankaasehene Abusuapanin, explained that the traditional leaders had to perform purification rites to cleanse the man’s family and the entire community from the spiritual consequences associated with such an offense.

He said the rituals involved the use of alcoholic beverages and a sheep, which were offered by the riverside to pacify the gods and restore spiritual balance.

Nana Owusu Ansah expressed concern over the incident, revealing that the victim, the man’s wife’s younger sister, had just completed Junior High School.

He condemned the act, noting that the man already has five children with his wife and should have known better.

The chief further disclosed that the man fled the community before the rituals were performed.

“If he had been present during the purification, he would have been protected from the curse. But by absconding, he now bears the full spiritual burden alone,” Nana Owusu Ansah stated.
