Farmers at Anhwiaso in the Adansi Asokwa District of the Ashanti Region are appealing to the government to construct a proper bridge over the Prakum River to save lives and protect their farm produce.
During a visit by Adom News, the farmers explained that the existing footbridge often overflows its banks during heavy rains, cutting off access to nearby communities and making it difficult to transport foodstuffs, cocoa beans, and other goods.
They lamented that schoolchildren and farmers risk their lives crossing the narrow structure daily, and called on the District Assembly to expand the bridge to accommodate motorbikes and tricycles to ease transportation.
Some of the youth in the community said they often carry cocoa and other goods on their heads across the river for the elderly, charging between GH¢40 and GH¢50 per trip, depending on the distance.
They appealed to the government to intervene urgently, stressing that a proper bridge would not only ensure safety but also enhance economic activities in the area.
