AngloGold Ashanti cuts sod for rehabilitation of ETS road in Obuasi

-

AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine has cut the sod to commence the rehabilitation of the ETS road aimed at easing traffic congestion in the Obuasi Municipality.

The ETS road, which connects the Obuasi East Municipality to the Obuasi Municipality and is located within the Central Business District of Obuasi, has been in a deplorable state for some time now.

The rehabilitation and subsequent beautification of the area form part of AngloGold Ashanti’s commitments under its 10-year Socio-Economic Development Plan to upgrade road networks in Obuasi.

Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony, the Managing Director of AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine, Samuel Boakye Pobee, said the initiative demonstrates the company’s commitment to supporting the development of Obuasi. He said they recognised the poor condition of the road and decided to rehabilitate it to match the growing stature of the municipality. He expressed optimism that, once completed, the usual heavy vehicular traffic on the road would be a thing of the past.

Mr. Pobee assured that the project, estimated to cost GH₵7 million, would be of high quality and completed in seven months.

For her part, the newly confirmed Chief Executive of the Obuasi Municipal Assembly, Faustilove Appiah Kanin, commended AngloGold Ashanti for the initiative. She pledged her support to the company to enable it to contribute further to the development of Obuasi and create more jobs for the youth.

The ETS road rehabilitation project aligns with AngloGold Ashanti’s broader socio-economic development efforts in Obuasi, which include the construction of a nine-unit classroom block at Sanso, an examination printing centre in Obuasi East and Obuasi Municipalities, an ultra-modern health centre for the Dokyiwa/Binsere communities, and a robotic centre for the Obuasi Senior High Technical School.

Scope of the ETS Road Project

The project will involve the rehabilitation of the existing roadway through the installation of high-strength, 50 MPa interlocking concrete pavement blocks, extending from the Multi Credit Office to the Old AGA Commercial Office.
