The Amedzofe Canopy Walkway in the Volta Region has collapsed, leaving several visitors with minor injuries and prompting the immediate closure of the popular tourist attraction.

The incident, which occurred near one of the small exit pillars, caused part of the structure to give way.

Authorities confirm that although some visitors were hurt, all injuries were minor and were attended to quickly.

The facility has since been closed down.

The management of the facility says the closure is a precautionary measure while a team of local and international engineers conducts a full structural assessment to determine the cause of the failure and recommend the next steps.

The incident has revived public concern over safety measures at tourist sites across the country, especially high-altitude adventure facilities that attract large numbers of visitors.

Authorities say the walkway will remain closed until all safety standards are met and the structure is certified fully secure for public use.

Management apologised for the inconvenience caused and assured the public that visitor safety remains their top priority.
