The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has announced plans to install 3,000 public litter bins across the metropolis as part of efforts to improve sanitation.
Speaking to the media, the AMA boss, Michael Kpakpo Allotey, revealed that the Assembly has already begun fixing bins at designated vantage points.
He called on corporate institutions and companies to partner with Duraplast Ghana Limited to support the production of more bins to expand the initiative.
According to him, the Assembly aims to extend the placement of bins to key areas, including Jubilee House, the 37 Military Hospital, the Kotoka International Airport, and other busy locations.
He expressed optimism that the availability of bins will help reduce littering, urging residents to make proper use of them.
The AMA boss also cautioned the public against dumping household waste in the public bins, stressing that they are not meant for that purpose.
He disclosed that the Assembly has engaged some youth to monitor the bins at various points, warning that individuals caught misusing them will face legal consequences.
