The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has impounded seven cargo trucks parked along the shoulders of Otublohum Road, near the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and Ghana Water Company premises at Avenor, as part of an enforcement exercise aimed at easing congestion and improving traffic flow in the metropolis.

The trucks were towed on Monday after being found obstructing vehicular movement and posing safety risks to other road users. The operation is part of the AMA’s ongoing efforts to enforce regulations on roadside parking and prevent the misuse of public spaces.

During the same exercise, the AMA also carried out enforcement actions at Obonu Street, near the Amankwaa Block Factory, where several saloon cars were towed from a mechanic shop operating beneath a high-tension electricity pole.

Speaking during the operation, AMA Coordinating Director Mr Douglas Annoful said mechanics and drivers in the affected areas had been cautioned since last year to stop operating under power lines and within restricted corridors, but had ignored the warnings.

Mr Annoful emphasized that the Assembly would continue the enforcement exercise and impose sanctions on individuals and businesses whose activities obstruct traffic, endanger public safety, or violate city by-laws.

He urged motorists and traders to comply with parking regulations and operate within approved spaces to help decongest the city and ensure public safety.
