The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), in collaboration with the Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly, will today, May 2025, commence a major decongestion exercise in the capital.
The first phase of the operation will focus on areas around the AMA Head Office and its surroundings, including Kinbu Road to Railways, ECG Junction to the King Tackie Tawiah Statue, and Opera Square to Adabraka.
Addressing the media, AMA Public Relations Officer Gilbert Ankrah said the exercise will be intensified along key routes, notably from Wato Junction through the King Tackie Tawiah School area to Cow Lane.
“The plan is straightforward, with the main focus on the areas surrounding the AMA Head Office. All zones within that enclave will be addressed. Attention will also be given to the Accra City Hotel and Mövenpick Hotel areas,” Mr. Ankrah said.
Ahead of the decongestion, AMA Mayor Michael Kpakpo Allotey engaged street hawkers within the Central Business District (CBD) and appealed to them to cooperate with the authorities to help restore order.
Mr. Allotey said the exercise aligns with a broader vision of city development under the framework of the impending 24-hour economy policy.
