The Member of Parliament for Akuapem North and Senior Advisor to the Bawumia campaign, Sammi Awuku, says all aspirants who contested the party’s recent internal primaries are ready to rally behind Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the party’s flagbearer.
According to him, this show of unity is critical as the party positions itself for the 2028 general elections.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme, Mr. Awuku noted that the wide margin between the leading candidates reflected a clear choice by party members, leaving little room for disputes over the outcome of the process.
He said Dr. Bawumia’s victory speeches and subsequent engagements have consistently emphasised unity, describing it as essential to building a strong and cohesive party ahead of the 2028 polls.
“The results leave no room for anyone to hold the system to ransom because the process was fair. The significant gap between the first and second candidates gives us confidence that the party is moving in the right direction,” Mr. Awuku stated.
He added that the character and rhetoric of the candidates would play a key role in fostering unity as the party moves forward.
According to Mr. Awuku, Dr. Bawumia has already begun engaging key stakeholders to consolidate unity within the party, adding that all former aspirants have expressed their willingness to support him for the party’s success.
He stressed that party unity would largely be shaped by the leadership style and character of the flagbearer, expressing confidence that Dr. Bawumia could include members from other camps in his campaign team if they are willing to contribute.
“From his victory speech and subsequent addresses, Dr. Bawumia has consistently emphasised unity as we work towards success in 2028. He is actively engaging all stakeholders to achieve this goal,” he said.
“We are united as one, regardless of who party members supported, and I would not be surprised if Dr. Bawumia includes people from other camps in his campaign team, provided they are willing to work together for the good of the party.”
