All 276 MPs are thieves, if campaign donations mean corruption – Attorney General to A Plus

-

The Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr Dominic Ayine, has strongly responded to accusations made against him by Gomoa Central MP, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus.

Speaking at a press briefing on Wednesday, 30th April, Dr Ayine dismissed the claims, which he said were based on campaign donations he received ahead of the last elections.

“I am reliably informed that his basis of saying that I am corrupt and a thief is that I took campaign contributions from a businessman at East Legon known as Dr Sledge, and that he also knows the people who donated pickups for my campaign,” Dr Ayine said.

In response, he argued that accepting donations for political campaigns does not amount to corruption.

“Now if receiving donations for your campaign or getting a pickup for a campaign is thievery or corruption, then there are 276 thieves in Parliament including the person who was making the allegation himself,” he stated.

Dr Ayine further warned A Plus to be cautious with his public accusations. He said he was ready to face him directly.

“But let him be warned that in my hometown we do not fear mud being thrown at us. On the contrary, we walk into the mud to deal with the person doing the mud-slinging.

“And I am prepared to walk into the mud with A Plus because what I have about him and the National Service scandal, he should come and tell you. I am challenging him,” he added.
