Deputy Roads Minister and Member of Parliament for Tamale North, Alhassan Suhuyini, has come to the defense of Sammy Gyamfi following public backlash over a viral video in which Gyamfi is seen gifting an undisclosed amount of US dollars to evangelist Nana Agradaa.
The video, which has stirred widespread criticism and raised questions about ethics in public office, has prompted the Chief of Staff to summon Gyamfi for clarification.
In a Facebook post on Monday, May 12, Suhuyini refrained from directly addressing the controversy but chose to commend Gyamfi’s unwavering commitment to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
He described him as “the party’s biggest revelation in opposition.”
“This young man was NDC’s biggest revelation in opposition, and he did everything he could—popular and unpopular—at all times to put HE JM and the NDC’s best foot forward,” Suhuyini wrote.
“I have never acknowledged this publicly. I am choosing today to do that without more.”
Sammy Gyamfi has since apologized for the incident, explaining that the cash gift was a private act of generosity that was unintentionally captured on video.
Nonetheless, critics argue that the gesture could undermine President John Mahama’s recently launched Code of Conduct for Public Officials, which aims to promote integrity, transparency, and accountability within government.
