The Queen Mother of Akyem Boadua in the Denkyembour District of the Eastern Region, Obaapanin Akua Bosompemaa Kyeraa, has appealed for peace and heightened security ahead of the upcoming Akwatia by-election.
In an interview, Obaapanin Kyeraa emphasized the need for unity and collaboration between residents and security agencies to ensure a free, fair, and transparent electoral process.
She noted that maintaining peace is crucial to protecting Ghana’s democratic progress and fostering national development.
“As we prepare for the by-election, I urge all stakeholders to prioritize peace and unity. It is only through cooperation that we can ensure a smooth and credible election,” she stated.
Her comments come amid growing concerns over election-related tensions. She stressed that the responsibility for a peaceful process lies with everyone—voters, political parties, and security officials alike.
Meanwhile, traders at the Akwatia Akwadum Market have also raised concerns about security. They are calling on Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare to deploy adequate personnel, citing violent incidents in areas like Ablekuma North as cause for concern.
They urged the police to take proactive measures to prevent similar occurrences in Akwatia.
