Akwatia by-election: We seek peace but… – Frimpong Kodua

General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua, has said that while the party is committed to peace in the ongoing Akwatia by-election, it will not allow itself to be intimidated by the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Speaking to the media after monitoring the voting process on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, he stressed: “Certainly, we all want peace, no one wants violence, but we’ll not be intimidated.”

His comments follow the cancellation of a peace dialogue scheduled by the National Peace Council on Monday, September 1, 2025. The NPP declined to participate in the meeting, describing the NDC’s delegation as “disrespectful.”

Frimpong Kodua argued that the representatives sent by the NDC were an “insult” to the Peace Council.

“We sent our National Youth Organiser and Head of Security and Intelligence Committee. We attended that meeting only to see a constituency youth organiser and a deputy constituency organiser. Is it not an insult even to the Peace Council? Were you expecting us to be there?

“We were not the ones who called for the meeting. It was the Peace Council. If the Council has any issues or reservations, they should call the NDC,” he said.

He further noted that the NPP has no objection to the heavy security deployment and police presence in the constituency.

“If you don’t have any hidden agenda, why should you be worried about the police presence—unless the police are here to help the NDC rigging machinery. If they are not here to do that, then we don’t have any reason to worry about the police presence,” he added.
