Police have arrested a young man, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, following violent clashes at the National Democratic Congress (NDC) office in Akwatia, Eastern Region.
The incident reportedly began when a group suspected to be supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) stormed the NDC office and allegedly tore down campaign posters of the party’s by-election candidate, Bernard Bediako Baidoo.
Eyewitnesses claimed the group was part of a team accompanying Minority Leader and Effutu MP, Alexander Afenyo-Markin.
Tensions escalated after bystanders confronted the men, arguing that the NDC office was not designated as a polling station. The disagreement quickly turned chaotic, leading to violence.
The arrested suspect was taken away in a police vehicle, though his current whereabouts remain unclear.
A video of the confrontation, shared by Accra-based Citi News on X, captured the chaotic scenes.
