The Chief of Akutuase, Nana Kofi Asare Bediako, together with his elders, has firmly rejected any attempt to introduce mining activities on their lands within the Amantena Electoral Area in the Asante Akyem North Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
Speaking to Adom News, Nana Kofi Asare Bediako reiterated the community’s strong opposition, stressing that mining would cause severe destruction to the environment and negatively impact the livelihoods of residents.
He cautioned that mining operations could contaminate their water bodies, which are vital for daily use. Beyond environmental harm, the chief also raised concerns about social consequences, including a potential rise in teenage pregnancies and related challenges.
Nana Kofi Asare Bediako and his elders have therefore called on authorities to respect their stance and safeguard the community from the harmful effects of mining.
