Akoto Royal Family urges Adiko Royals to respect rule of law in Tanyigbe chieftaincy dispute

AKOTO ROYAL FAMILY URGES RULE OF LAW OVER ACCLAMATION IN TANYIGBE CHIEFTAINCY DISPUTE

The Akoto Royal Family of the Doku Dzehe stool has appealed to the Adiko Royal Family to uphold the rule of law in the ongoing chieftaincy dispute at Tanyigbe, cautioning against attempts to declare paramountcy publicly without following proper procedures.

Speaking at a press conference in Tanyigbe, Togbe Adanufia of the Akoto Royal Family described recent developments as “disturbing” and emphasised that traditional leadership matters must adhere strictly to customary and legal procedures.

“We believe in the sanctity of our traditions and the need to follow due process as outlined by law and custom. Any attempt to install or proclaim a paramount chief without the proper procedures threatens the peace and cohesion of the Tanyigbe community,” Togbe Adanufia stated.

The Akoto Royal Family, custodians of the Doku Dzehe stool, urged all stakeholders to remain calm and allow competent traditional and legal authorities to handle the matter without interference.

They warned that bypassing due process could escalate tensions and undermine the integrity of traditional institutions.

Tanyigbe, a prominent area in the Volta Region, has recently witnessed growing tension over competing claims to the paramount stool.

The Akoto Royal Family reaffirmed its commitment to peace, justice, and unity, urging all parties to prioritise dialogue and legal resolution over unilateral actions.
