Residents of Ajiriba, a community near New Edubiase in the Adansi South District, are appealing to government, NGOs, and philanthropists to provide them with access to potable drinking water to save them from waterborne diseases.
The appeal was made during a visit by the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Adansi South and the Member of Parliament (MP) for New Edubiase, Abdul Salam Adams, to assess the challenges facing the community.
Some residents, speaking to Adom News, revealed that their only available water source is often contaminated with snails and other organisms, making it unsafe for both drinking and domestic use.
They explained that untreated water from the source has caused serious health complications, while schoolchildren are often late to school due to the daily struggle to fetch water.
MP Abdul Salam Adams acknowledged that the water crisis in Ajiriba has persisted for over four years.
He assured residents that the community is among 21 earmarked to benefit from mechanised borehole projects this year, as part of efforts to improve access to safe drinking water in the constituency.
