Ahafoman SHTS seeks gov’t support to operationalise STEM centre

The headmaster of Ahafoman Senior High Technical School (SHTS) in Goaso, Ahafo Region, Adu Gyamfi Derrick, has appealed to the Ministry of Education to furnish the school’s newly constructed Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) centre to enhance teaching and learning.

In an interview with Adom News, Mr. Gyamfi explained that although government has built a modern STEM facility for the school, it remains unused due to the absence of essential equipment.

He noted that Ahafoman SHTS has shown strong performance in STEM-related activities, citing the school’s victory in the 2023 National STEMNOVATION competition.

According to him, equipping the centre would not only improve academic performance but also serve as a resource hub for other schools across the Ahafo Region.

“We have a beautiful STEM centre, but it’s not functioning because it lacks equipment. If the Ministry supports us, it will go a long way to boost STEM education in this area,” he said.

On the issue of first-year admissions, Mr. Gyamfi disclosed that the school requested 1,200 new students but received 950, with about 700 having reported so far.

He commended parents for their cooperation but urged those whose wards are yet to report to do so promptly, stressing that classes have already begun.

“Late reporting affects teaching and learning, so parents should ensure their children report on time,” he advised.

The headmaster reiterated his school’s commitment to promoting science and innovation but appealed for timely government support to operationalize the STEM centre for the benefit of students and the region at large.
