Ahafo NDC refutes alleged involvement of Asutifi MPs in NAIMOS attack

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) communication teams in Asutifi North, Asutifi South, and the Ahafo Region have denied allegations that the Members of Parliament (MPs) for the two constituencies incited a mob attack on members of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) during an operation at Hwidiem.

Addressing the media after visiting the site, the Asutifi South NDC Communications Officer, Asafo Agyei Baffour, described the accusations against Alhaji Collins Dauda, MP for Asutifi South, and Dr. Ebenezer Kwaku Addo, MP for Asutifi North, as false, baseless, and intended to tarnish their reputations.

He emphasised that both lawmakers have no involvement in illegal mining and remain fully committed to the directives of John Dramani Mahama in the ongoing fight against galamsey.

According to him, claims that Dr. Addo mobilised over 600 “macho men” within five minutes are not only unrealistic but also a calculated attempt to mislead the public.

“Dr. Addo does not have the capacity or resources to mobilise such a group in minutes as alleged. These stories are fabrications meant to damage his image,” Mr. Baffour stated.

He called on security agencies to conduct a thorough and independent investigation to uncover the truth behind the incident at Bronikrom and the Hwidiem Police Station.

Mr. Baffour further urged investigators to visit the operational site to determine whether the mining activities in question were indeed illegal, adding that transparency in the process will help bring finality to the issue.
