Chief Executive Officer of the Social Investment Fund, Abass-Adams Nurudeen, has taken a swipe at critics claiming that the Mahama-led government has abandoned Agenda 111 projects commissioned by the previous administration.
Members of the opposition New Patriotic Party in the Ashanti Region have, for months, criticised the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government for allegedly failing to operationalise hospitals under the initiative.
They argue that the Akufo-Addo-led administration commissioned health facilities including Kokoben, Sewua, and Trede hospitals before exiting office.
However, speaking on Nhyria FM’s Kro Yi Mu Nsem on Thursday, April 9, 2026, Mr. Nurudeen dismissed the allegations, describing Agenda 111 as unplanned projects initiated by the NPP.
“The NPP never considered establishing Agenda 111 hospitals. It was the COVID-19 pandemic that drew their attention to such projects. If you look at their 2016 manifesto, there was nothing indicating they would construct these hospitals,” he told host Barima Kofi Dawson.
Mr. Nurudeen insisted that the projects allegedly commissioned had not been completed, stressing that they lack essential facilities such as electricity and other medical installations needed for operation.
He explained that the previous administration failed to secure sufficient funding for completion, leaving the current government with the burden of finishing the projects.
“Many of the facilities they commissioned cannot be operational because they lack essential amenities like electricity, making it difficult to employ health professionals,” he said.
Mr. Nurudeen further alleged that Agenda 111 became a “corruption machinery” at the presidency under the previous administration, claiming that contracts were awarded by the Chief of Staff instead of the Ministry of Health.
He also alleged that over $500 million was spent on the projects, an amount he said could have completed more than 50 fully equipped hospitals.
According to him, the current government will require over $2 billion to complete all Agenda 111 infrastructure projects.
“Because of corruption, they wasted $500 million and our assessment indicates that we need $2 billion to complete all the projects. Meanwhile, the economy we inherited is bad, with over $30 billion in debt. This year alone, we are paying about ¢50 billion in debt servicing,” he added.
Meanwhile, Mr. Nurudeen says the government is working to secure the necessary funds to complete the projects.
