Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Cynthia Morrison, has said an Affirmative Action bill has been reviewed, finalised and set to be presented to cabinet for approval.
The assurance from the minister on the passage of the bill follows pressure from civil society groups and gender activists on the bill which has suffered a 10-year setback.

Addressing the media at the Meet the Press series in Accra Wednesday, the minister acknowledged various groups and institutions for the active role they have played in pushing for the passage of the bill.
“Even though I cannot give the timelines, we are seriously working on it [the bill],” she said.
She assured: “We want to incorporate our ladies so it will focus on women with disability so that has been captured in the bill.”

The minister also revealed the government’s effort in dealing with issues of human trafficking.
“Two hundred and twenty-five out of the 332 people trafficked in 2018 were children and 47 of the people rescued have been reunited with their families whiles some 19 others continue to receive support at a government adult shelter,” she said.
