Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has called on President John Dramani Mahama to rein in what he described as excesses by state security agencies against members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Speaking during an engagement with the UK Minister for International Development, Baroness Jennifer Chapman, alongside UK parliamentarians and civil society representatives, Afenyo-Markin condemned recent developments, including the arrest of the Bono Regional Chairman of the NPP, Kwame Baffoe (Abronye), and the removal of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkonoo.
He argued that such actions amount to political attacks on the opposition, warning that they risk tarnishing Ghana’s international image and undermining democratic progress.
“These developments are unacceptable. The government must address these excesses if we are to protect and strengthen our democracy,” the Minority Leader stressed.
