The Member of Parliament for Effutu and Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has urged supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to put aside their differences and rally behind Dr Mahamudu Bawumia ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Speaking to Adom News during a stakeholders’ engagement, Mr Afenyo-Markin appealed to supporters of aspirants who lost in the party’s recent flagbearer contest to let go of bitterness and emotions and unite for the shared goal of returning the NPP to power.
He stressed that the outcome of the flagbearer election is binding on all candidates and their supporters, noting that Dr Bawumia’s victory makes him the party’s legitimate leader going into the 2028 polls.
According to the Minority Leader, collective support for the flagbearer is critical if the party is to stand a strong chance of reclaiming power.
Mr Afenyo-Markin also cautioned party members against washing internal grievances in public, particularly on social media, urging them to rather use established party structures and amicable channels to address concerns and preserve unity.
