Ghanaian actor Adjetey Anang has expressed joy over the progress made in developing theatre in Ghana, saying it is fulfilling to see years of hard work begin to yield results.
Speaking in an interview with Doreen Avio, the renowned actor described the journey as rewarding but emphasized that sustaining the growth of theatre in Ghana will require collective effort.
“It’s a relief because we’ve always yearned for this. We worked tirelessly over the years, and we are beginning to see that it’s bearing fruits now. The only thing is that we still can’t do it alone. That’s why we have partnerships with our audiences who continually patronize our projects and products,” he said.
Adjetey Anang, widely known for his dedication to the creative arts, stressed the need for more corporate and stakeholder involvement to drive the industry forward.
“We’re also reaching out to the corporate spaces and all stakeholders to come on board. There are many things that we can do together. It’s relieving and exciting to know that the next phase will see even bigger things happening. So let’s all join hands and make this work,” he added.
He also encouraged unity among creatives, urging his colleagues to foster collaboration and mutual respect within the industry.
“It starts with us, doesn’t it? How we relate to one another, how we hold each other in high esteem—it’s so crucial. When it starts at home, the world looks at us and says, ‘these people are one’. A united front, even when we have differences—we don’t wash our dirty linen in public.”
“Let us stick together and be each other’s keeper. Once we have that united front, nothing can break us. Remaining united is very crucial in this sense,” he stressed.
Adjetey Anang made these comments on the sidelines of the launch of Ghana Must Go, an upcoming theatre production by Latif Abubakar’s Globe Productions.
