The Member of Parliament for Adentan, Mohammed Adamu Ramadan, has ordered the immediate dredging of gutters in Lakeside following flooding caused by a heavy downpour.

The flooding occurred on April 2 after about 30 minutes of rain, affecting parts of Adentan Lakeside, including Nyamekrom and Room 6, and raising concerns among residents about recurring drainage challenges in the area.

During a visit to the community on Friday, April 3, the MP told Channel One News that engineers had been engaged to begin urgent desilting works to prevent a recurrence.
“In the short term, we have engaged engineers to carry out immediate dredging, and once that is done, we will implement long-term measures to put an end to this,” he said.

The Adentan Municipal Director of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) attributed the flooding to choked drains, largely caused by the indiscriminate dumping of refuse.

He warned that individuals found blocking drainage systems would face sanctions under the law.

Meanwhile, the Assembly Member for the Man-hee Electoral Area, Bright Afedor, welcomed the intervention but urged residents to change their behaviour.

He cautioned that unless indiscriminate dumping of refuse into gutters is stopped, flooding will persist despite ongoing mitigation efforts.
