Acherensua chief urges collaborative efforts to tackle exam malpractice in Ahafo Region

-

The Akyempimhene of Acherensua, Nana Aduse-Poku, has expressed concern over the Ahafo Region being identified among the top regions for examination malpractice.

In an interview with Adom News, Nana Aduse-Poku described the development as disgraceful and said it raises serious questions about the integrity of education in the region.

“This issue is tarnishing the image of Ahafo. It’s not something we should take lightly,” he said, calling for a collective effort to address the menace.

His comments follow revelations by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) on June 4, 2025, during the National Stakeholders Conference on Examination Malpractices. According to WAEC’s Head of Humanities, Daniel Nii Dodoo, the Bono, Bono East, and Ahafo regions have consistently led in reported cases of exam cheating from 2021 to 2023, across both basic and secondary levels.

Nana Aduse-Poku said the report is alarming and called for collaboration between traditional authorities, the Regional Education Directorate, the Regional Coordinating Council, parents, clergy, and students.

“I’m shocked by this report. The former Regional Director of Education, Lucy Ama Ankrah, worked hard to discourage pupils and teachers from engaging in any form of malpractice,” he added.

He cautioned teachers and parents against aiding candidates to cheat in the upcoming Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), stressing the importance of allowing students to write independently to reflect their true performance.

“Let us have faith in our children and allow them to prove themselves,” he urged.
