Accra Sports Stadium approved as sole venue for Black Stars matches – GFA

The Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum, has confirmed that the Accra Sports Stadium is currently the only venue approved by CAF and FIFA to host Black Stars matches.

This comes after the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, previously the team’s main home ground, was sanctioned for failing to meet required international standards.

Asante Twum, speaking to 3Sports, stated that Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying games scheduled for September and October will take place in the capital.

“At the moment, the only approved venue for Black Stars matches is the Accra Sports Stadium. That will host Black Stars games in September and October,” he said.

The Black Stars will face Mali and Comoros in the next round of qualifiers as they aim to secure a fifth World Cup appearance.

Ghana returned to the Accra Sports Stadium in March this year for a Matchday 5 qualifier, where they secured a convincing win over Chad.

After six rounds of matches, the Black Stars currently sit atop Group I with 15 points, holding a three-point lead over second-placed Comoros.
