Accra Lions have been officially relegated from the Ghana Premier League following a 2-0 defeat to Dreams FC in their final home game of the season at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Despite starting the match on the front foot and creating several chances, the home side failed to convert their dominance into goals.
Controversy flared in the 27th minute when a series of refereeing decisions sparked protests from the Lions, resulting in yellow cards for players Awoute and Setordjie.
The first half ended without a goal, but Dreams FC took control shortly after the break. Razak Salifu opened the scoring in the 51st minute, giving the visitors a deserved lead. Aziz Musibau then sealed the win with a second goal in the 84th minute.
The loss confirms Accra Lions’ relegation, ending their five-year run in Ghana’s top flight.
Founded in 2015, the club first competed in Ghana Division One – Zone 3 in 2018 and earned promotion to the Premier League in the 2020/2021 season, scoring an impressive 57 goals in 28 games.
Their relegation brings a frustrating close to a campaign that began with high hopes. The focus now shifts to rebuilding in Division One, with aspirations of a swift return to the Premier League.
