Foreign Affairs Minister and North Tongu MP, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has disclosed that a high-level committee of experts has been working on an African Union Strategy and Implementation Document to guide President John Mahama’s tenure as AU Chairman.
President Mahama is expected to assume the AU Chairmanship in January next year.
The committee is chaired by Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and brings together diplomats, academics, public servants and other experts with extensive experience in African affairs.
The committee members are Dr Mohamed Ibn Chambas, Amb. Kwasi Quartey, Amb. Chris Kpodo, Amb. Amma A. Twum-Amoah, Dr Delese Mimi Darko, Amb. William Awinador-Kanyirige, Mr Larry Gbevlo-Lartey, Dr Edem Adzogenu, Amb. Khadija Iddrisu, Amb. Francis D. Kotia, Dr Obodai Torto and Mr Clarence Amoatey.
Mr Ablakwa said President Mahama is determined to have an “impactful and transformative tenure” as AU Chairman from day one to meet the expectations of Africa’s 1.5 billion people.
He commended members of the committee for their dedication and sacrifices and called on the public to share their views on the issues they believe President Mahama should prioritise during his tenure.
