A/R: 7-Year-old boy drowns in flooding at Abrepo Bronikrom

A 7- year-old boy is alleged to have drowned in flood waters after a downpour Saturday night at Abrepo Bronikurom in the Bantama suburb of Kumasi.

According to reports, the boy was among three children bathing in the rain when one of their slippers was swept away.

In an attempt to retrieve the slipper, the boy was carried away by the flood.

Eyewitnesses who spoke to Adom news reporter, Kwadwo Beng Mireku, said they are still searching for the body of the boy.

“We are really scared because this is the first time this thing is happening here in our community,” they shared, highlighting the shock felt by local residents.

The boy has been identified only as Kwame.

Grandmother of the missing boy, Maame Akosua Kaba, is desperately awaiting the retrieval of her grandson.

“We hope to see him and give him a befitting burial if he is not alive. I send him to school which he was in class one but stopped for one year and now started again. In this community, everybody likes him because he is respectful and obedient,” she said.

Frantic efforts to retrieve the body have proven futile in the last three days.

Family and local traditional authorities have now resorted to the counsel of a fetish priest to perform rituals to recover the body.

The residents are counting on the support of the police and NADMO to retrieve the body.
