The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has suspended it proposed demolition exercise to another day.

According to the Public Relations Officer of the AMA, Numoo Blafo II, the demolition exercise has not been abolished hence informing the squatters residing in the slums the day of the exercise will hinder the operations of the AMA officials.

“We have already issued warnings to the various squatters; one month ago and just yesterday. We will definitely embark on the operations but we don’t want the media and the residents to be aware. We want to storm them with a surprise action. Experience has taught us to do it our own way…” he told Adomonline.com’s Gershon Mortey.

The previous government in their sanitation and environment projects embarked on an operation to demolish put ups by squatters residing in slums along the water bodies on the coastal areas in Accra, the capital city of Ghana.

Shortly after the 2016 December polls, where the erstwhile NDC government lost the election to the NPP government, the A.M.A have decided to embark on a similar furious demolishing exercise but with no information on the exact day the exercise would happen.

According to AMA, the media will have the right to report after the exercise has been conducted.

He added that, they have issued warning to the various illegal residents in the sites and expect them to move from their settlements before the demolition comes at hand like ‘rapture’.

Numoo Blafo II noted that such exercise will help to reduce the spread of diseases such as cholera outbreak.

“The media can go and report on the exercise after we have stormed our areas of interest. We have our camera men that would capture the pre-incidences in case they are needed for reportage purposes. Such acts would aid to reduce the rate of cholera outbreak in the country…” he stated.
