The Institution of Engineering and Technology, Ghana (IET-GH), has signed a three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Sino-Africa Union Education Institute (SAUEI) to create new opportunities for Ghanaian engineering students to pursue higher education in China.

The partnership aims to strengthen engineering education in Ghana by facilitating access to undergraduate and postgraduate programmes at Chinese universities while exploring scholarship opportunities for qualified students and members of IET-GH.

The MOU was signed at the IET-GH office in Accra by the President of IET-GH, Engr. Wonder Salami Davor, and the Director of SAUEI, Mr. Vincent Wang.

The meeting brought together five representatives from IET-GH and four representatives from SAUEI to discuss areas of collaboration and strategies for implementing the partnership.

Under the agreement, IET-GH will identify and recommend qualified engineering students for the available study opportunities, drawing on its network of student chapters across all 16 regions of Ghana.

This nationwide network is expected to help the institution identify talented and deserving students who can benefit from the partnership.

SAUEI, on its part, will support students throughout the application and admission process. Its responsibilities will include application processing, admission guidance, visa assistance, pre-departure orientation and post-arrival support.

The institute will also provide IET-GH with regular updates on available academic programmes, scholarship opportunities and application deadlines at its partner universities in China.

Speaking at the meeting, Engr. Davor emphasised the importance of providing engineering students with opportunities to enhance their knowledge and practical skills through further education.

He noted that IET-GH’s student chapters across Ghana’s 16 regions would serve as an important platform for identifying outstanding engineering students for the programme.

The IET-GH President expressed optimism that the collaboration would help students improve their learning and contribute to more effective engineering practice in Ghana.

Mr. Wang, the SAUEI Director, highlighted the institute’s commitment to helping Ghanaian students access quality higher education in China.

He disclosed that SAUEI works closely with one of China’s prestigious C9 League universities, a group of leading Chinese institutions known for their academic and research excellence.

He expressed the institute’s willingness to support efforts to secure scholarship opportunities for qualified Ghanaian students, helping them pursue their academic ambitions and develop the expertise needed to contribute to the country’s engineering sector.

The partnership will cover both bachelor’s degree and master’s degree programmes, making the opportunities relevant to students seeking their first university qualification as well as engineering graduates wishing to advance their education.

In addition to facilitating admissions, IET-GH and SAUEI will jointly organise information sessions and outreach activities across Ghana.

These engagements will provide students and members with details about available programmes, admission requirements, scholarship opportunities and application procedures.

The three-year agreement represents an important step towards strengthening educational cooperation between Ghana and China, particularly in engineering and technology.

By connecting Ghanaian students with international academic opportunities, the initiative seeks to support skills development, knowledge exchange and the growth of engineering expertise in Ghana.

Both institutions expressed optimism about the partnership and their shared commitment to creating more opportunities for Ghanaian engineering students to access quality higher education and contribute meaningfully to national development.
