An 11-year-old boy has drowned in River Owabi at Akropong in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District of the Ashanti Region.

According to residents, about seven boys went swimming on Monday, October 5. Three of them were swept by the water current, but community members managed to rescue two alive.

Efforts to save the last boy proved futile, as he remained under the water.

The Assembly Member for the area, Andrews Kofi Nti, told Adom News that the boy was found dead a day later.

“After learning of the incident, traditional authorities in the community, together with security officials, went there, but we couldn’t locate him on that Monday. Later Tuesday, we went back, performed rituals before locating the body,” he said.

The Assembly Member said the police have since handed the body over to the family for burial.
