Aspiring National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Boakye Agyarko has congratulated newly-elect John Boadu, calling on members to put the internal contest behind them and unite around the party’s future.

Boadu emerged victorious at the NPP’s National Delegates Conference in Kumasi on Saturday, October 3, 2026, polling 2,888 votes to beat Agyarko, who secured 2,408 votes. Former National Chairman Paul Afoko placed third with 790 votes, while Sammy Crabbe obtained 41 votes.

In a statement issued on October 4, Agyarko described the election as a reaffirmation of the NPP’s democratic tradition and said the verdict of the delegates must now be respected as the party moves into a new phase.

He extended his congratulations to Boadu and wished him wisdom, strength and success as he assumes responsibility for leading the party as National Chairman.

Agyarko also congratulated the other newly elected national executives, describing their victories as a collective call to duty, service and sacrifice at a time when the party begins preparations for the next electoral cycle.

The former minister expressed particular appreciation to members of his campaign team, constituency executives and delegates across Ghana and the diaspora who supported his bid.

He said their commitment, loyalty and sacrifices during the campaign would remain deeply valued, praising them for conducting the contest with dignity and in the interest of the party.

Agyarko also struck a conciliatory tone, stressing that internal elections should not permanently divide members of the NPP.

“Internal contests in our party are not battles between adversaries; they are family contests among brothers and sisters committed to the same sacred cause,” he said.

He argued that the conclusion of the elections should mark the beginning of a period of consolidation rather than continued rivalry, insisting that the party must now close ranks and address whatever divisions may have emerged during the campaign.

“Today, there are no individual victors or vanquished – it is the New Patriotic Party that has emerged victorious,” he said.

Agyarko said the challenges facing the party and the country required members to put aside their differences and present a united front.

He subsequently pledged his support to Boadu, the newly elected National Executive Committee and the party’s flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, as the NPP looks ahead to the 2028 Presidential and Parliamentary Elections.

“Our supreme, non-negotiable objective remains the total, decisive victory of the New Patriotic Party in the 2028 Presidential and Parliamentary Elections,” he said.

Agyarko also commended the NPP National Elections Committee, the Electoral Commission and the security services for what he described as a smooth, transparent and peaceful electoral process.

His statement comes as the newly elected executives begin their four-year mandate to lead the party, with unity and organisational renewal emerging as key issues following the closely contested national elections.
