Lawyer and IMANI Ghana Senior Vice-President Kofi Bentil has taken aim at the La Dadekotopon MP over the demolition of La Pleasure Beach, questioning how she could say she knew nothing about an exercise that reportedly affected about 5,000 people in her constituency.

Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile on Saturday, October 3, Mr Bentil described the MP’s public reaction as “crocodile tears”.

“She’s supposed to be in the Local Government Ministry. How do you not know?” he asked. “It’s either incompetent or, you know, criminal negligence.”

In his view, something is badly wrong if she truly did not know.

“The point I’m making is that if you are deputy minister of Local Government, you are the MP of the area and something like this affecting 5,000 reportedly of your people and you don’t know, something terrible is happening,” he said.

He also asked who is running the town. Mr Bentil said there are rumours that the President is not the one running the country.

“I said that there were rumours that it’s not the president who’s running the country, some other people are running the country. And I say that with due respect to the president because I don’t see President Mahama’s character in this thing. I don’t see President Mahama authorizing this.”

Rita Naa Odoley Sowah, the MP for La Dadekotopon and Deputy Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, said at a press conference that neither the NDC nor the local authorities were given notice of the demolition. She attributed it to the Labadi Beach Hotel and SSNIT, working with National Security.
