MTN Ghana, through the MTN Ghana Foundation, is set to support 150 persons with disabilities, women and young entrepreneurs operating small-scale businesses across the Bono, Bono East and Ahafo regions.
The initiative forms part of the Foundation’s Economic Empowerment pillar, which seeks to provide financial support to entrepreneurs who have viable businesses but require additional capital to expand their operations.
Speaking to Adom News in Sunyani, Manager of the MTN Ghana Foundation, Mr Robert Kuodzo, said the initiative is aimed at helping beneficiaries grow their businesses, create jobs and improve their livelihoods.
He explained that the Foundation recognises the important role of small businesses in driving local economic development and providing employment opportunities, particularly for young people.
Mr Kuodzo said selected beneficiaries would receive financial support ranging from GH¢20,000 to GH¢50,000, depending on the needs and requirements of their respective businesses.
He said the MTN Ghana Foundation is implementing the programme in partnership with InnoHub, with beneficiaries expected to invest the support in expanding their businesses and making them more sustainable.
The businesses targeted under the programme include small-scale farming, shoemaking, food vending and other entrepreneurial activities.
According to Mr Kuodzo, the project is being implemented over a five-year period, with previous phases covering different parts of the country.
He explained that the first year of the programme was implemented in Accra, Takoradi and Kumasi, while the second year covered Cape Coast. The third year focused on the Northern, Upper East and Savannah regions.
The current phase covers the Bono, Bono East and Ahafo regions.
Mr Kuodzo encouraged beneficiaries to use the financial support responsibly and channel it into activities that would enable them to expand their businesses and generate sustainable income.
He said the initiative was not simply about providing financial assistance but also about helping beneficiaries build stronger businesses capable of supporting themselves, their families and, in some cases, creating employment for others.
He added that the MTN Ghana Foundation would continue to support initiatives aimed at improving livelihoods, empowering vulnerable groups and promoting inclusive economic development across the country.
The programme is expected to strengthen small-scale enterprises in the three regions while providing opportunities for women, young people and persons with disabilities to expand their businesses and become more economically independent.
