Antoine Semenyo has withdrawn from Ghana’s squad ahead of the Black Stars’ opening matches in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers due to injury concerns.
The Manchester City forward had been included in Carlos Queiroz’s original 24-man squad for this month’s games against Ivory Coast and The Gambia, as well as an international friendly against Morocco.
However, the 25-year-old has now pulled out due to an injury, with the Ghana Football Association expected to name a replacement in the coming days.
Semenyo’s withdrawal is the latest disruption to Queiroz’s plans before his first competitive matches in charge of the Black Stars.
He joins Mohammed Kudus and Nathaniel Adjei who have both withdrawn from the squad due to injury concerns.
The Portuguese coach has already been forced to reshape his squad, with nine players added after fitness concerns surrounding members of the original selection.
Ghana will continue preparations at the Accra Sports Stadium before travelling to Côte d’Ivoire for their Group C opener.
The Black Stars begin their qualifying campaign away to Ivory Coast at Stade de la Paix in Bouaké on 24 September, before hosting The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium three days later.
They will round off the international window with a friendly against Morocco at the Grand Stade de Tanger on 4 October.
